Boksburg’s Stiglet to compete in Castrol Cup
Jacques “The Stiglet” Joubert of Boksburg has been chosen by Volkswagen (VW) Racing Poland, to take part in the 2014 International VW Golf R Castrol Cup.
The races of the cup will be held on race tracks in five different countries across Europe, namely Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Slovakia.
The tournament, which is set to begin in April 2014, will include seven rounds stretched across seven Saturdays, with each round consisting of two races – a morning and an afternoon race.
According to the Castrol Cup website, the aim of the project (VW Castrol Cup), is to promote the brand and products of Volkswagen through motorsport and supporting young drivers to develop their careers.
Joubert recently took part in the National Bridgestone Production Cars Championships where he finished third overall.
Races for the championships took place all over the country, including Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, the Top Gear Street Festival in Durban and the Kyalami race track in Midrand, just to list a few.
He started racing at the age of five and first competed in a Baby Kart 50cc class race.
Some of his achievements include breaking the Geroteck High Speed Oval record with a speed of 269.015km/h at the time when he was the youngest competitor in the history of the event.
He was also crowned rookie champion in the VW Engen Polo Cup.
Joubert achieved both accolades in 2010.
To turn Joubert’s chances of being part of the Castrol Cup into a reality, the 19-year-old will need an estimated R850 000 to cover his flight tickets and accommodation for the duration of the tournament.
A brand new VW Golf 7, plus 30 000 Euros (about R330 000), is the main prize for the winner of the Volkswagen Castrol Cup.
