Wikus Webber wins 11 Global

Boksburg’s Wikus Webber claimed gold at the 11 Global Triathlon event held at the Sun City on the weekend of November 9 and 10.

The two-day event saw the introduction of a new competition called the 11 Squared, which was a combination of a sprint distance that took place on Saturday, with the traditional Olympic distance taking place on Sunday.

The Olympic distance included a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle event, and a 10km run with the sprint distance being exactly half the distance of the Olympic, with its swim, cycle and run events being 750m, 20km and 10km respectively.

Webber competed in both distances.

Trailing Glen Gore in the swim leg of the sprint distance, the 24-year-old made it count on the bike leg before surpassing Gore.

Webber maintained his lead during the run to win in a time of 1:06:32, with Glen coming in at second in 1:06:36.

Powerful running in the Olympic distance on Sunday propelled Webber to his second win in as many days, finishing in 1:56:34, well ahead of runner-up Gerhard de Bruyn who crossed the finishing line in 1:58:26. Jeren Seegers completed the top three and finished in 1:58:54.

11 Global returns to Sun City in November 2014.

11 Squared combined results:

1. Wikus Webber – 3:03:06

2. Glen Gore – 3:08:20

3. Ross Koch – 3:10:11
