Easterns cricket awards: King Wesley on top of the batting pile

The Eastern Cricket Union held their annual awards evening at The Classic India, in Boksburg, on Wednesday, May 27.

The awards saw the union recognising the top performers from the recently concluded 2014/2015 cricket season.

There were a number of successes for Boksburg’s clubs and players:

Boksburg Cricket Club picked up the trophy for winning the Promotion League, while CBC Old Boys received the silverware for winning the Premier Reserve League.

Boksburg Bushy’s XI were acknowledged for their Saturday Fourth League victory and Boksburg Rising Sunsets lifted the trophy for their Saturday Second League success and the Gold T20 competition.

Sunward Park Cricket Club received the trophy for winning the Chairman’s League.

CBC College was acknowledged as the Top Primary School in the region.

The Premier T20 “Battle of the Roses” competition was won by Grant’s Giants, skippered by Boksburg resident Grant Thomson (who represented the Unlimited Titans this season in the Momentum One Day Cup).

CBC Old Boys’ talented left-handed opening batsman, Wesley Coulentianos, received recognition for finishing the season as the Premier League’s top batsman (he scored 531 runs in 10 batting innings, with a sublime average of 91.8).

Coulentianos was also the top batsman during the Premier T20 “Battle of the Roses” competition.

Boksburg Cricket Club shared the award for administration excellence with Actonville Spurs Cricket Club, while John Mmoloa was named Umpire of the Year.

Sibongile Makamo was named Women’s Player of the Year.

Thomson was named the Semi-Pro Player of the Year, while all-rounder Ernest Kemm took the Semi-Pro Players’ Player of the Year award.
