Cricket: Spurs canter past Boksburg

Boksburg return home this Sunday where they’ll be lying in wait for Alberton.

Actonville Spurs claimed an impressive six-wicket win over visitors CMH Boksburg Cricket Club in Actonville on February 24.

The home side exposed Boksburg’s batting frailties, which have cost them for the better part of the season as the visitors could only manage a total of 132, following a poor start with the willow.

Their top four quartet of captain Adam Forbes, Akter Rasul, Dylan Matthews and Brayden Schaper all combined for 24 runs, a setback that would go on and cost the visitors who’ve had the going tough in the league’s top six.

Gareth Schreuder (37 runs) and Jordan Hollard (37) were the only significant contributors to the low total, which was reached after 42 overs.

Spurs’ Clayton August was outstanding with the leather, taking 4/20 including two maidens. His teammates, captain Mekyle Pillay and Zubar Turkey took 2/10; 1 and 2/38 respectively.

Spurs had a similarly shaky start to their batting innings as they lost three wickets for low scores before wicketkeeper Ryno Marais saved and won the day with his 56 not-out.

Marais was with Ridwaan Daya behind the crease, who finished with an unbeaten 15 as the home side toppled the target inside 36 overs.

In the bowling front for Boksburg, it was the usual suspects who stood out: Dylan Matthews took 2/27; 2 with Matthew Hollard collecting 2/36.
