Interact raises R9 000 for three local NPOs
Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people aged 12 to 18.
Woodlands International College Interact learners raised R9 000 for three local organisations that are making a difference in the community.
Beneficiaries were Urban Ruins, Operation Anti-Freeze and the Rotary Club of Boksburg (school bag project) who each received R3 000.
The handover ceremony took place at the Woodlands International College school hall on February 19.
Woodlands Interact president Daniella dos Santos said: “Our decision to choose these three organisations was based on the incredible work that they do for communities.
“We also chose them because they work mostly with children who are less fortunate.”
Dos Santos said the R9 000 was raised through the baked goodies Interact members sold at the school.
“We also received generous donations from our small change tin and the Interact colour fest hosted last year, where we managed to raise the majority of our funds for the donations,” said dos Santos.
Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting.
Operation Anti-Freeze is an inner-city upliftment project that runs a variety of projects for the less fortunate, including a soup kitchen, blanket drive, Christmas hamper drive, toy and stationery run and school children care which cater.
Rotary Club Boksburg (schoolbag project) provides school bags to all needy children in Boksburg and surrounding areas.
Lastly, Urban Ruins is a non-profit organisation for children.
