Northerns win PG Park high-scoring affair

Benoni Northerns Premier XI powered back in the second innings to overhaul Boksburg Cricket Club’s score of 195 for an impressive three-wicket victory at Prince George Park on December 3.

The in-form home side, who were sent to bat first, were heading for a disastrous inning and humiliation with their first five batsmen failing to score 20 runs each in the Eastern Cricket Premier League clash.

This is not until former captain John Haywood took matters into his own hands to re-stabilize Boksburg’s innings with his score of 48 runs – the second most on the day behind the visitor’s Aron Visser, who’s brilliant knock of 60 took the game away from Haywood and co.

Boksburg’s Brayden Schaper also ensured that the home side didn’t go down without a fight as he anchored the batting innings with Nathan Kruger – with both men finishing unbeaten with 33 and seven respectively.

Wicket-keeper Kane Horwell contributed 30 as the score on the scoreboard began to look worthwhile of defending.

And it probably could’ve been successfully defended had it not for been the brilliance of Visser, who ended unbeaten.

Northerns’ opener Richard Thomson made three catches – benefitting from the bowling of WP Myburg, Stefano Di Bartolomeo and Stefan Jordaan who all took two wickets respectively.

Boksburg’s Bryce Parsons took a hat-trick of Northerns’ wickets with the leather, including a single maiden.

The visitors finished with 196/7 – ending Boksburg’s three-game win streak. – @SabeloBoksburg
