Lace up for annual Colgate Race in Boksburg

The annual Colgate Road Race takes place on Sunday, May 7, at Boksburg City Stadium.

The race, which will feature 15km and 32km distances, is presented by the Boksburg Athletic Club and both races will start at 6.30am.

There will also be a 6km fun run, which starts at 7am, and the first 2 000 finishers will receive medals.

Entries are open until Saturday, May 6, and no entries will be accepted on race day.

The field limit for both distances is 6 500 participants.

The route will start in Jubilee Road where the runners will run towards Brakpan before turning off at Barry Marais Road. Runners will then turn into Van Wyk Louw Drive, where the first water point will be.

Runners will follow Van Wyk Louw Drive to Heidelberg Road, the second water point.

They will then turn into Leeuwpoort Street and continue along this road until they reach the third water point outside the Colgate premises.

From here, the route turns into Van Dyk Road before turning into Power Street, Brakpan Road and Lonie Road (fourth water point) and continues down into the stadium gates in Dudley Smith Road.

The 15km runners will then run onto the stadium track to complete their run and enjoy ice-cold beverages.

The 32km runners will continue out of the back stadium gates, where a water point will be set up, and do another lap of the above route.

The extra 2kms in the 32km race will require runners to run in the streets of Snyman, Dagama, Stanbury, Dick King, Walton and Dundee before joining the route of the 15km, where an extra water point will be set up.

Entertainment for children will be available in the form of a 50m dash for u-8s, which starts at 10am. All participants will receive medals.

Jumping castles will also be available for children.

All participants in the 15km and 32km races will receive a medal, goodie-bag and a T-shirt after completing the race.
