Chardinne obtains her national dancing colours
Hip-hop dancer Chardinne Opperman obtained her SA colours at the Hip-Hop International (HHI) competition recently held in Cape Town.
The EG Jansen matriculant achieved the honour as part of her dancing group, the Freeze Frame Crew, which finished second at the tournament.
The top three finishing groups were awarded their Protea colours.
The runners-up finish also qualified the Freeze Frame Crew to fly to Arizona, USA, as part the HHI competition in June, where Opperman and the group will be officially handed their colours.
The Advertiser spoke to Chardinne to find out more about her dancing.
What/who is your biggest inspiration in your dancing?
Dancing is the happy place I go to. It feels natural and that’s how it’s always felt. Dancing is what I turn to. As for who, the crew teachers and members are my biggest inspiration.
When did you start dancing and how did it start?
It started in my mom’s uterus. I’ve been dancing for as long as I can remember. I started with ballet dancing and then my teacher introduced me to Latin dancing. My main focus now, though, is hip-hop dancing.
On to the academic side of things, which career path are you planning to follow?
I’m not planning on continuing to study after this year as I want to follow my passion, which is dancing. I’d love to dance for as long as I can. But if I had to study, I’d go with the health and beauty route.
What’s the best thing about being in matric?
It’s the last year.
