Don’t miss some heavyweight comedy at the Big Top
South African, Nigerian and Ugandan comedians will unite for a once-off, not-to-be-missed, outrageously funny comedy showcase, The Heavyweights International Comedy Show, to promote African unity and fight xenophobia.
This 2017 edition of Pride Weekend will take place at Carnival City on April 1.
The diverse ensemble of local and international headliners includes AY – Ayo Makun (Nigeria), Kansiime Anne (Uganda), Thenjiwe (SA) and Trevor Gumbi (SA), supported by Tumi Stopnonsons (SA) and Nina Hastie (SA).
All established comedians in their own right, they each bring their own unique brand of comedy to the event, with the promise of huge laughs for all.
The host for the evening is none other than the charming and equally hilarious Toll Ass Mo, a Xhosa comedian straight out of Tembisa.

Like many comedians who have gone on to become household names, Tall Ass Mo comes from humble beginnings.
His material mainly comprises stories of his childhood as well his encapsulations and observations of the absurdities that come with living in modern-day South Africa.
Tall Ass Mo has made a huge impact on the local comedy industry, holding his own among some of the country’s best in a growing list of performances and appearances.
“These are top comedians that also came through the ranks over the years. Expect a side-splitting, laugh-a-minute showcase of African and American quirky humour,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager at Carnival City.
The 2017 Pride Weekend will also feature the third instalment of the Pride Gospel Show on April 2.
This year’s showcase includes Metro FM Music Awards 16 nominee Lebo Sekgobela and Metro FM Music Awards winner Dr Tumi as well as the multiple-award-winning Ntokozo Mbambo.
Sunday, April 2, is a praise day not to be missed in Carnival City’s Big Top Arena.
Heavyweights International Comedy starts at 8pm, but doors will open early at 7pm.
The Pride Gospel Show starts at 3pm, with doors to the Big Top Arena opening at 2pm.
