The lake does not stink

Ashley Rutherford writes,

It should be mentioned the water in Boksburg Lake does not “stink”.

In celebration of Boksburg turning 130 years old, I and a couple of friends held a braai at The Boathouse at the Boksburg Lake.

Definitely, there is no smell coming from the lake.

People pick up a smell when they go under the Trichardts Street railway bridge and then the assumption is that it is the lake.

Apparently the stench comes from a factory which discharges into the sewer that flows down under the railway bridge.

There are also those who refer to the incident of the dead fishes years ago as proof that the water is toxic.

To my understanding someone put a diseased Carp into the lake which killed all the other Carp.

At the time I contacted the Parks Department, who immediately arranged for a clean-up.

It should also be noted that in 2015 I fell into the lake. My camera didn’t survive the dunking but I am still around to set the record straight.
