Miss Teen Commonwealth SA finalist dreams of being a doctor

Zee World Miss Teen Commonwealth SA finalist, Thembelihle Mnguni, describes herself as an ambitious young woman.

The 17-year-old beauty from Sunward Park has been selected as one of the top 36 finalists in this year’s competition.

Thembelihle matriculated from Boksburg High School in 2016, and she’s now studying towards a BSc degree in biological sciences at the University of Pretoria.

In 2014 she was crowned Miss Boksburg High and that’s where her passion for modelling blossomed.

The teenager believes she is a charismatic and outgoing person who will bring hope to young women all over South Africa.

She said it’s possible to achieve in life only if you put your mind to it.

“I want to remind young people that if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough,” Thembelihle said.

Thembelihle said her journey as a finalist in the pageant has been instructional.

“I have been given the opportunity to learn many useful skills and life lessons. I have also been given the platform to represent my charity, Tshwane Place of Safety Association, where I’ve been tasked with raising funds and donations for the organisation. ”

The association addresses the growing need for the dedicated care of babies and toddlers in distress.

The determined young woman said she is looking forward to applying all the skills she has learnt in her journey as a finalist.

Thembelihle aspires to be a medical doctor.

The sacrifices her parents make keep her going in life.

“My parents inspire me to work hard and to stay focused on my dreams. I am constantly motivated by how much they’ve achieved in their lives and how they can help others.

“My friends and family have shown immense support and I couldn’t be more grateful for having them in my life,” she said.

Prizes for the winner include a R15 000 cash prize.

Thembelihle said if she wins she will put half of the money towards her university fees and give the other half her charity of choice.

The grand finale will take place at the Atterbury Theatre, Pretoria, on April 29.
