Meyer reinstated as Boksburg captain
Boksburg Cricket Club stalwart Len Meyer has been reinstated as the skipper for the Eastern Cricket Premier League outfit.
Meyer went into semi-retirement during the off-season which saw fellow senior player John Haywood assume the leadership seat at the beginning of the 2016/2017 Premier League campaign.
Haywood, however, has now stepped down as skipper following a recently held team meeting, citing interference which compromises his 100 per cent commitment.
“I could not make it to all of the practice sessions as I stay in Heidelberg, so I told him (Meyer) that it’s better that he still be captain,” explained Haywood.
Meanwhile, Meyer welcomed the decision.
“We are a young side. I decided to stay and help the future players,” he said.
“Look, I still enjoy playing and I’m happy to be back.”
