Cricket: CBC wins Old Boys duel

CBC Old Boys emerged as three-wicket winners over Springs Old Boys in an Eastern Cricket Premier League encounter in Boksburg on Sunday, November 13.

The local side, who’ve endured a mixed start to the current campaign, managed to maintain their winning streak despite an unimpressive showing with the bat.

Dylan Bennie finished as the Boksburg side’s top run-scorer with 35; a rather underwhelming and uncharacteristic stat for CBC – who finished the game with 124/ 7 in 37.2 overs.

Springs’ top order hitter Stefan van Heerden shone brightest in the afternoon with his knock of 58, although his side’s 123 all-out was short of a challenging target to set.

q Meanwhile, just across a few roads, a shocker unfolded at Prince George Park as Tembisa – who came primed for a contest – blitzed to a 100-run victory over Boksburg.

Sent in to bat first, the visitors made Boksburg pay for their costly fielding mistakes.

Tembisa captain Zwelo Ntsimbini laid the foundation for the eventual handsome win, with his half-century – an aftermath from a few dropped catches by the home side.

Teammate Enock Makamo did the most damage however, with his century putting Tembisa in dreamland.

Both Ntsimbini and Makamo, the stars on the day, scored 210 runs between them – with Makamo finishing with 119, while his captain departed on 91.

Tembisa went on to set the home side a 308-run target, which when all was said and done, proved to be a bridge too-far for the PG Park outfit.

Hein Cronje’s 54 and Adam Forbes’ 44 ultimately served as some consolation for Boksburg, who stuttered to 207 in their spell at the crease.

Both CBC and Boksburg, although experiencing different fortunes in their respective week seven fixture, will be hoping to put on a much-improved performances in their next match – and they’ll need to, as they face each other in the Boksburg derby this Sunday at CBC. – @SabeloBoksburg
