Boksburg back to winning ways with 37 run win

Following a poor run in form, the Boksburg Cricket Club returned to its winning ways against Kwa-Thema with a much-needed 37-run win.

After winning the toss, skipper Len Meyer elected to bat before his side showed its early season form, which saw them defeat the likes of defending champions Benoni Northerns.

The decision proved to be a key point in the match before a single bowl was delivered as the Prince George Park outfit would go on to post a healthy 196/9 in its allotted 50 overs.

In a match where everyone was dancing to the same tune for the victors, Ruan du Plessis showed his versatility, top-scoring (36) before taking a hat-trick of wickets (3/36) in his allotted 10 bowling overs.

Kwa-Thema, impressive with the bat themselves (159 all-out) – made a contest out of the clash but would go on to finish 37 runs in arrears to hand Boksburg the points.

Christmas Mphenyane offered the silver lining in the loss with a fantastic personal bowling haul which saw him take 4/28 including two maidens.

Katlego Bala also had an outstanding performance with ball in-hand, taking 3/35 and two maidens.

“Kwa-Thema played well but I think the difference between them and us is that they could not get partnerships going,” said a pleased Meyer.

“We had small partnerships that accumulated to a decent total and luckily we pulled through for the win. But I must say, it was an enjoyable game of cricket from both sides and on to the next one as the season nears the end.” – @SabeloBoksburg
