Upcoming football local star earns Spain selection

Reiger Park soccer star Shandre Campbell (10) has been selected to participate in the 25th edition of the 2016 Donosti Cup, in San Sebastian, Spain.

The SuperSport United Junior Academy attacker will fly out to the European nation in July, where he will represent South Africa Rand Central.

The tournament will feature in excess of 300 teams.

His selection comes at the back of a successful 2015 for the Wit Deep Primary School student, who also starred for the South Africa All Stars team, in the prestigious Robin van Persie Tournament, in Holland.

His highs at the meeting included the audacious volleyed goal he scored against Tottenham Hotspur and rubbing shoulders with English Premier League veterans such as Darren Fletcher (former Manchester United player), Emile Heskey (former Liverpool forward) and, of course, former United striker van Persie.

He was named the SuperSport United Top Talent Player for 2015, as well as the top goal-scorer.

Following his exploits in the Netherlands, Campbell was one of 28 players selected for the A-team during the district trials held in September.

He went on to play in the local District Tournament, in Germiston, before he scored nine goals in 12 matches.

He earned his selection for Spain thereafter, during trials for the 12 players for the Donosti Cup.

He’s labelled Kaizer Chiefs striker and Reiger Park star Bernard Parker, as well as Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo, as the two players who inspire him every time he watches them.

His dream is to one day be part of Bafana Bafana and to play in the FIFA World Cup.

In Spain, Campbell is set to face the likes of host nation Brazil and France, among numerous other powerhouses of the game.

Anyone interested in sponsoring him may contact his father, Reshan, on 076 429 8997, or his mother, Clarissa, on 082 719 1498.- @SabeloBoksburg
