War on drugs intensifies

Within one week, the Reiger Park Police managed to arrest 76 suspects for various criminal offences in the Reiger Park policing precinct.

Seventeen of the suspects were arrested for drug-related crimes.

Members of the police station have already apprehended more than 37 people for drug-related offences since the beginning of the year.

The arrests include the apprehension of a 24-year-old man, suspected of recently gunning down a Windmill Park man and shooting another in Reiger Park.

The man, who is believed to be a member of one of Reiger Park’s street gang, was arrested by the Reiger Park Police after they found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, in Reiger Park, on January 18.

He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and attempted murder.

More charges, including the Windmill Park murder case, could be added against the suspect.

He made his first court appearance on Wednesday, January 20.

“The war against drugs and other crimes continues; we have started the year on a high note, with a number of arrests,”said the Reiger Park SAPS’s Sgt Mashudu Phathela.
