BFC begins preparations for new season
The Boksburg Football Club (BFC) held its open day at the Boksburg City Stadium, on Saturday, January 24, ahead of the new soccer season.
The day saw players from in and around Boksburg participate in open practise matches, in the hope of impressing new coach Garth Cooley, who’s stepping in for his second stint at the helm.
A second open playing session will be held this weekend, and a third and last one will be held on Saturday, February 7, when the first and second sides will be selected.
The day will also see the selection of a new captain for the first side. The new skipper will replace Matthew Cooley, who led the side in the last campaign.

Asked what to expect from the team this season, Cooley said, “We’re obviously looking to select the best players who will represent this team at the highest level.
“I want the first side to lead by example; young aspiring soccer players must be able to look up to these guys and say, ‘One day, I want to play for BFC at the highest level’,” said the 32-year-old mentor.
The club will compete in the Eastern Local Football Association League (ELFA), with the first side competing in the Premier League and the second side in the Division One League.
Season fixtures are yet to be released. – @SabeloBoksburg
