Local pupil faces mighty task at Baseball World Cup
Freeway Park resident and Boksburg Cardinals Baseball Club pupil Cullum Lee (14) is a member of the South African u-15 baseball team that flew out to Mexico on Monday, July 28.
The team is taking part in the International Baseball Federation’s (IBAF) 2014 U-15 Baseball World Cup held from Thursday, July 31, to Tuesday, August 10.
The Boksburg High School pupil is one of two Easterns baseball players who gained selection for the team; the other being Kempton Red Sox player Fabio Sá Miranda.
Playing in the World Cup for the first time, the team will face the daunting task of playing against the baseball powerhouses of the world such as the US (ranked first) and Japan (ranked second) who have both been drawn in their pool (Group B).
The local team played two warm-up games against an Easterns u-18 team and a Gauteng u-18 team before their departure and was defeated on both occasions against the strong opposition. -@SabeloBoksburg
