Boksburg’s Hodges going Dutch for Zandvoort
Two-time Volkswagen Cup Championship winner, Mathew Hodges, from Boksburg, will contest the Hankook 12-hour endurance race in Zandvoort, Holland, on Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31.
Furthermore, Hodges, 27, has been invited to drive a BMW 150 GTR with Saxon Motorsport team boss Nick Barrow and Clint Bardwell.
He is no stranger to Saxon Motorsport, having scored a class win at the famous Nurburgring 24-hour race in 2012 driving a BMW 135d, and contested a few four-hour races in the same car.
He’s also familiar with Zandvoort having raced there in the Seat Cupra Cup in 2011.
Although he’ll be racing a BMW 1 Series again at this year’s event, the type in which he’ll be allied with will be different this time around.
Unlike the 300kW three-litre twin-turbo diesel-powered he drove at Nurburgring, the 2014 version, according to Saxon Motorsport, will boast a five-litre V10 power-plant, capable of churning-out 450kW.
The event has a unique format in that it starts at 4pm on the Friday, and will be stopped at 7pm, when all cars will enter parc ferme (closed park) and race the remaining nine hours the next day.
Radio Show Limited, the voice behind Radio Le Mans, is extending its coverage of endurance racing and the 12-hour Zandvoort race will enjoy full live coverage on www.radiolemans.com.
