RNCA fly East Rand flag high in Asian tour

Rowlin National Cricket Academy (RNCA) skipper, Justin Gamble, was named the player of the tournament as his side won the Johor T20 International U-18 Tournament in Malaysia during their recent Malaysia/Singapore tour.

Ian Smith’s men claimed a convincing 45-run victory against Singapore in the final of the tournament, which saw Gamble’s teammates, Aidan Justus and CJ van der Walt named batsman and bowler of the tournament, respectively.

“We had a shaky start to the tour, losing our first two warm-up matches against Malaysia,” said Smith.

“After those two reality checks, however, we were unstoppable. We played 10 matches in total and we won seven, lost two and one rained out.

“I’m very happy with the players’ response after the first two losses because they bounced back and showed their true mettle.

“A special mention to our three frontline spin bowlers Wreford Bera, Josh Hall and CJ (van der Walt), who really did well to get us on the front foot in most of our matches,” said the coach.

In the finals, RNCA made RNCA 139/8 in 20 overs, then restricted Singapore to 94/6.
