Special voting allegedly not conducted properly

According to a Scribante resident, who wishes to stay anonymous, the special voting, which took place on May 5, was conducted inappropriately.

The resident says that they were told to be at the voting station by 8am, and members of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) only arrived around 9.30am.

“We were also informed that only those eligible to partake in special voting would be voting on the day. This was not the case, there were people voting who were not eligible,” she says.

She adds that they were not given privacy while they were casting their votes and their ballots were placed in a plastic bag and not a sealed box.

Kate Bapela, spokesperson for the IEC, was contacted for comment.

At the time of going to print, no comment had been received.
