Page, Vhonani clash ends in entertaining draw
Boksburg’s Page Tshesane and Vhonani Tshidaboni produced and entertaining draw in their super-middleweight bout at Emperors Palace on Wednesday evening, April 23.
The six-round bout, which began the show’s proceedings, had little action in the opening two rounds with both fighters feeling each other out as they cautiously exchanged timely punches.
It was the second bout between the two having faced off last year, with Tshesane winning the reverse encounter on points.
The three judges scored the draw 58-56 in favour of Tshesane, 59-55 Tshidaboni, with the last judge scoring it 57-57.
The action heated-up in the latter rounds, as the two gradually opened up and exchanged stronger and damaging punches which saw the referee temporarily halting the match for Tshesane to nurse a cut to the head.
Tshidaboni’s face was also showing the effects of the intense clash.
There was no love lost between the two as they fought it out in a close encounter, giving the judges a hard task in separating them.
In the night’s main event, British boxer Martin Murray won his first fight in the country when Ishmael Tetteh failed to continue after the sixth round of their middleweight bout.
Amid suffering some stinging punches from the Englishman in the opening stages of the bout, the Ghanaian complained of an illegal head-butt after falling to one knee in the fifth round before quitting after the sixth in the 10-rounder.
