Gautrain working on alternative parking

The Advertiser recently received a complaint about parking availability at the Gautrain’s Rhodesfield station.

Danie Piek from Boksburg says that his son and daughter attend university in Pretoria, and travels via the Gautrain.

“If my children do not leave early, they cannot find parking at the Rhodesfield Station,” he says.

Piek adds that if his children do arrive late, and do not park in a parking bay, they have to park outside, and then receive fines from the metro police.

Dr Barbara Jenson, spokesperson for Gautrain, says that the Gautrain Management Agency and the Concessionaire are working together on parking alternatives for users.

“The procuring of additional parking space at the Rhodesfield Station has already been done and the construction of new parking space will commence in due course,” she says.

She adds that in the interim customers are requested to investigate alternative means of accessing the station.

These include:

n The Gautrain bus service, which operates cost effectively.

n Get dropped off at the station. There are secure drop-off areas at each station, which are free for 15 minutes.

n Arrange a lift-club with friends and save on petrol and parking fees.

n Get your firm to arrange a company shuttle to direct you to your office.
