Brat bonsai open day

Bonsai-growers and enthusiasts can look forward to the Bonsai Regional Association of Transvaal (Brat) open to be held at the Dutch Reformed Church in Boksburg North, on Saturday, March 29.

The day is hosted by Kierieklapper Bonsai Kai Club and will start at 8am.

On this day, all the bonsai clubs in the Transvaal province will gather and enter one or more bonsai trees from their collection, in the exciting Brat competition.

Each bonsai will be exhibited in 12 categories after which a panel will choose the bonsai winner from each category.

Non-club members with an interest in bonsai, are also invited to attend this event and take part in the competition.

The theme for this event is “Our South African heritage” where the focus will fall on indigenous flora, considering that bonsai’s are an eastern art.

Bonsai-growers will have the opportunity to share their experience with indigenous trees and bonsai experts will advise the audience on bonsai growing methods and products.

Anyone interested in bonsai, may join the day to enjoy this occasion, even if they don’t participate in the competition.

There will be stalls exhibiting bonsai and attendees will also be allowed buying bonsai, and tree nutrients and toxins.

Prizes will also be up for grabs and can be won via raffle draws.

Those interested in attending may contact Mack Boshoff on 011 999 3335 or 082 820 2486, or Es Steyn on 083 455 5991 or e-mail scsteyn@gmail.com.
