Looking back at a memorable 2013 for gymnastic club

The Wild Flames Concordia Tumbling and Acrobatic Gymnastics Club from Boksburg had one of its more memorable years in 2013, herewith are some of the highlights the club experienced.

· The club’s gymnaestrada group, The Dancing Flames, competed at the second World Gym for Life Challenge at the International Convention Centre, in Cape Town, between July 10 and 14.

· The Dancing Flames also represented the country under the Gymnastics and Dance Large Group section (21 or more gymnasts). The group returned home with a silver medal, edging-out the likes of Sweden, the US, Argentina, Republic of Congo and Greece – just to name a few.

· Twenty-seven acrobatic groups obtained their East Gauteng Provincial colours for acrobatic gymnastics and competed at the South African Gymnastics Games.

· Fourty-two gymnasts received gold medals, 12 gymnasts received silver medals and two gymnasts received bronze medals – 56 medals in total.

· Eleven gymnasts obtained their East Gauteng Provincial colours for tumbling and competed at the South African Gymnastics Games. Two gymnasts received gold medals, a further two received silver and four received bronze medals.

· Twenty-two gymnasts competed at the Mini SA’s Tumbling Event for Wild Flames Concordia. Nine of them received gold medals, three received silver and two received bronze.

· Six gymnasts competed under the stages section for Wild Flames Concordia at the South African Gymnastics Games. Four received gold medals with a further one receiving silver.

· Eight of the club’s acrobatic gymnasts competed at the trials for the World Championships to be held in France this year. All qualified and will again represent the country at the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships, which will be held in the outskirts of Paris.
