Alternative route available to and from Pretoria

Motorists travelling to and from Pretoria will now have an alternative road to the e-tolled R21.

The Gauteng Department of Transport recently unveiled the revamped M57, that can serve as an alternative route for motorists avoiding the e-toll gantries.

“This is an example of an alternative route that we have provided for people who can’t afford the tolled roads,” says Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi.

He adds that they have been working hard over the past two and a half years to upgrade the R55 to a solid dual carriage-way between Johannesburg and Pretoria.

“Although money is being pumped into upgrading provincial roads, buying an e-tag is still the smarter choice,” Vadi says.

“If you use a toll network and don’t have an e-tag you will pay the full price of 59 cents per kilometre.”
