Sunward Park man shot in hijacking

A hijacking in Sunward Park left a man with a gunshot wound to the leg at about 3.45pm, on Sunday, August 11.

Spokesperson for the Boksburg SAPS, Lieut Mathanda Ngobese, confirmed the incident.

“The victim’s wife told the police that her husband was approached by two armed men while turning into his driveway,” says Ngobese.

The robbers, who were driving in a silver Polo, forced the driver out of his Mercedes-Benz before they fired two shots.

One of them hit the victim in the back of his knee.

The hijackers then sped away in the stolen vehicle.

Police and paramedics came to the victim’s rescue and he received treatment on the scene before he was rushed to a local hospital.

The vehicle was recovered a few minutes later, in the Dawn Park policing precinct.

Ngobese says detectives are investigating the violent hijacking and confirmed no arrests had been made as of yet.

Hijacking and attempted murder cases were registered at the Boksburg Police Station.

The police urge people to be aware of their surroundings when entering and exiting their homes.
