The much-needed improvement is under way at the primary school, but staff still need to raise thousands of rands to carry out the remaining construction work.
The sum required to finish the project is R800 000, and some funds have been raised, but this not sufficient to cover the overall costs of the project.
A cash boost is thus required.
Businesses, individuals, philanthropists and anyone who wants to help are being asked to contribute towards the cause.
Speaking on behalf of the school governing body, the school principal Gerald Henley says they are seeking donations of items such mortar, bricks, plumbing materials, tiles and paint or cash sum donations.
“Any donations received will be put straight into the project and the name to be given to the hall may be the one of the main sponsor,” says Henley.
Most of the children of the school are from the poorest families of the surrounding informal settlements, and cannot afford to pay the R400 school fees per year.
“Since we do not have a hall to have our morning assembly and other functions, in winter the children face extreme cold, and in the summer the harsh heat affects our people,” states Henley.
“Sometimes when we have functions like fundraising events, we have to hire the municipal hall, which is also costly.”
Anyone who would like to make a donation to the appeal, may contact the school on 011 910 3976.
