Country star creates her own magic
Port Elizabeth-born country singer Chantelle Williams is not a one-trick-pony; not only has she been a successful musician for the past 10 years, but she is also a business woman, constantly pushing towards success.
Chantelle recently moved to Boksburg, after being signed by the Local is Lekker recording company.
“I am so proud to be a part of the Local is Lekker recording label; moving to Gauteng is the best thing I could have done to further my singing career,” she says.
“I like living in Boksburg, as I feel it is a very central area and this makes it easier for me to get to performances.”
Chantelle released her first country album, Make Someone Happy, last year. It was produced by Tony Ridgway, who also wrote nine of the 15 songs on the album.
So far about 5 000 albums have been sold and three of her songs have made the SA Country Top 10, on Radio IFM.
In March, Radio IFM rewarded Chantelle with the Melodie Award for Best Country Singer, and the Album of the Year Award.
Her music also gets regular airtime on Radio RSG, Radio KWBC in Nashville, in the USA, Bay FM, Radio IFM and Uitsaaines (an Internet radio station).
Chantelle notes that, to be successful, “you have to create your own magic”, but is grateful for the chance she has been given by Local is Lekker to increase her profile as a strong competitor on the country music scene.
She also recently filmed an episode of the Afrikaans music show Noot vir Noot, which has yet to be aired.
Chantelle calls her style of music “American country (traditional)”, but adds that she also sings a bit of modern country.
Boksburg’s newest country star recently performed at Hippos, in Brakpan, but if you missed her performance, you can check up on her upcoming shows on her Facebook page, at chantellewilliamscountry.
She will also be performing at the Troepies Fees, just outside of Pretoria, in August.

Chantel is the Golden Girl of South African Country. She will be a big star!
