Boksburg stumble to defeat at the hands of Alberton

The tricky fixtures have come thick and fast for the local side and it’s about to get trickier, with a trip to Benoni Northerns awaiting them this coming Sunday (February 9).

The Boksburg Cricket Club’s winning start to the new year came to a grinding halt at the hands of the Alberton Cricket Club in a 54-run loss during their Eastern Cricket Premier League match on Sunday, January 26.

In a poor all-round performance by the Prince George Park outfit, the travellers were all dismissed for a lowly 141.

This was a forced-submission job led by Alberton’s Jacques Koster, who finished with 3/29 in his 10 overs of bowling – including a single maiden.

His teammates AD Gagiano and Ryan Cartwright took two wickets apiece as they set the foundation for the convincing victory ahead of their team’s batting innings.

The visitors struggled from almost the very beginning, worsened by their top batsmen’s loss of form as captain Adam Forbes (7), Akhter Rasul (duck), Kane Horwell and Jordan Hollard combined for 29.

Unlike their more recent games, where the middle order and tail-enders helped to save games that could have taken another turn against them, this time the PG Park outfit found it difficult to gain any sort of momentum as wickets were lost behind minute runs.

They were all dismissed after 33 overs.

Boksburg again enjoyed home ground comfort when they went in search of the victory that would take them back to winning ways as Bedfordview came to town on Sunday (February 2).
