Old Boys ease to Duduza win

The home side eased their way to 88/4 after 24.2 overs; and that was all she wrote.

CBC Old Boys were dealt a mental boost heading into their crunch clash against Kempton Park when they cantered past a hapless Duduza outfit in their Eastern Cricket Premier League encounter at CBC on November 24.

After winning the pre-match coin toss, the home side opted to bowl first before forcing the visitors to submission for an embarrassing score of 87 all-out.

The bowling onslaught was led by the home side’s skipper, Casey Arnold, who took 4/10 in eight overs while teammates Rynard de Lange (3/25 in six overs) and Thulane Radebe (2/8 in five overs) added to Duduza’s batting woes.

It was a brilliant start from the home side which set the tone for an easy six-wicket bonus-point win – a much-needed spring in preparation of Kempton’s visit on December 1, the league’s last match of the year. A report on the big one will be published in the next issue of the Advertiser.

In the beginning of the run chase, the home side were sloppy, struggling to form a solid partnership and rhythm, but top-order member Sherwyn Pillay remained resolute.

The home side lost four big wickets, but when the Old Boys machine was just beginning to warm up, the writing was on the wall for the visitors who could only watch Pillay score a big 44 before his departure; and Ryno van der Merwe ending with an unbeaten 22.

CBC head of cricket Willie Bernhardt said: “Duduza started well and were 47/1 with Tumelo Bodibe, the Easterns assistant coach, looking good, but on 24 he pulled a short pitched delivery from Rynard onto his stumps and the rest of the wickets started falling.”
