Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts set for a return to the hexagon
It’s up to the likes of Potts, who’s shared an intense rivalry with Van Zyl, to restore some pride in the heavyweight division, taking nothing away from the current face of EFC Africa, Lungiambula
Mixed martial arts veteran Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts is set to return to the hexagon following a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of a serious knee injury.
The former EFC heavyweight champion (11-6), whose last EFC appearance dates back to April 2017, is said to make a return inside an EFC cage as early as December.
It will also be the last show of the year. His opponent is yet to be announced.
In an interview with the Advertiser, Potts confirmed: “I had to go for a major knee operation in November of 2017 and that set me out for quite some time. After a long rehab and recovery, my knee is healed and stronger than ever and finally Fangzz is back and better than ever.”
Potts is expected to make his return at EFC 76 which will be staged at the Time Square arena in Pretoria on December 8.
A lot has happened in the heavyweight division since Potts’ lay-off. The current heavyweight champion is natural light-heavyweight, and Dalcha ‘champion’, Lungiambula.
The latter made history in recent memory as he defeated then heavyweight champion Andrew ‘One Gear’ van Zyl to become the heavyweight and light heavyweight champion.
