Super subs win it for Blues

Boksburg fighting all the way to avoid relegation

The Boksburg Football Club’s senior reserve side might have been left red-faced, but the A-team won the one that mattered as they emerged at the right side of a 2-1 full time score against Old Bens in Benoni.

The Eastern Super League encounter took place on Saturday, July 7. The hosts took a 1-0 half-time lead before Ernest Seforo’s men rallied back.

Striker Wesley Vollmer began the comeback as he netted from the bench before left winger Ndumiso Selepe, who also came off the bench, completed the comeback as he dramatically netted in the 87th minute.

Coach Seforo said: “The game was very tight as both sides cancelled each other out. We really needed the three points as we now moved one step up from the bottom of the log, which means Corinthians is occupying it with 10 points, and us 11.

“The team is really improving every weekend. I can say I was very impressed by the team’s performance – they implemented exactly what we do in training,” said the mentor, who’s also in charge of the Blues u-17s.

The Junior Blues failed to protect home ground as they capitulated against a Sandton side who were deserved winners at Prince George Park on Sunday, July 8.

The encounter was an Eastern Super League clash.

Having taken the lead through the impressive Shane Radebe in the 25th minute, who has recently been chosen for the Eastern u-17 team, the Blues’ roof caved in as they lost 1-3.

Seforo said: “Chances were created and not converted; opponents came back very strong, equalised and extended the lead.

“We conceded very easy goals, including an own goal due to a lack of communication between the defenders and the goalkeeper.

“I am happy about how the boys played. We’re going to be well-prepared for the second round when we visit them.

“A good team cannot be beaten twice by the same opponents and we are one of those good teams.”

“I was not happy about the results and the boys were feeling worse than I was after the game. The best thing is to go back to the drawing board and rectify mistakes then go back to the field.” – @SabeloBoksburg
