Old Boys earn first T20 victory

In a weekend marred by rain, CBC Old Boys’ premier XI registered its first win of the Eastern Cricket T20 tournament with a six-wicket victory over Spring Old Boys at Prince George Park.

The Group B clash was played on October 8.

CBC has had the upper hand over their Old Boys namesakes for the last few years.

Following a delayed start due to the pitch being wet, the fixture was trimmed from 20 to 16 overs.

Springs Old Boys were sent to the crease first and were led by Kyle Dabner and John Mantz who both scored 18 runs but the latter finished unbeaten.

Dylan Alberts also finished his time behind the crease unbeaten with only seven runs and a single wicket taken in his two overs of bowling.

Ashton Rudolf delivered the most for his side, finishing with 2/18 in 3.4 overs.

Most of Boksburg’s successful chase was done on top as opening hitter Jaco Theunis walked back to the stands with a team-high of 31 runs.

The home side looked to have enjoyed their bowling innings, with Jaydin Liebenburg, Craig Parker, Gift Nzimande and Willie Barnard taking a wicket each.
