Super Four cruiserweight knockout tournament to thrill boxing enthusiasts

Golden Gloves super promoter Rodney Berman announced the details of Golden Gloves’ next Night of Reckoning event.

This will kick-start an exciting Super Four cruiserweight knockout tournament including Kevin Lerena and Johnny Muller.

Berman made the revelations at SuperSport in Randburg on Wednesday, May 11.

The Night of Reckoning, which will take place at Emperors Palace on June 11, will be headlined by the vacant IBO minimum weight championship fight between Eastern Cape foes Simphiwe Khonco and the undefeated Siyabonga Siyo.

The June 11 first round of the Super Four tournament will see the reigning South African and WBA Pan African champion Lerena taking on Argentina international Roberto Bolonti.

In the other semi-final Muller will face the undefeated Micki Nielsen from Denmark.

Asked about facing Nielsen, former South African light heavyweight champion Muller said: “Micki Nielsen is southpaw and I love fighting southpaw fighters. Uncle Harold and I have been studying videos of him so we’ll be ready.”

The winners of the semi-finals will move on to the finale scheduled to take place at Emperors Palace in October.

Furthermore, a purse of R1.5m will be on the line in the finale with a split of R900 000 for the winner and R600 000 for the loser.
