Top batsman swaps CBC for Kempton
Easterns First Class side batsman Wesley Coulentianos has left childhood club CBC Old Boys in a high-profile move to rivals Kempton Park.
The move, which happened at the beginning of the season, saw Coulentianos join the likes of Easterns teammates Grant Thompson, Wesley Marshall and Tabraiz Shamsi, to list a few.
Kempton recently beat Benoni Northerns in the Eastern club cricket play-offs to book a spot in the National Club Championships – the primary reason for Coulentianos’ decision to move.
“I moved to get an opportunity to play with some older and more experienced players and keep learning the game,” he said, excusing any disrespect towards his former side.

“I ultimately went over to Kempton so that I had the chance to go to Club Champs and to be a part of a powerhouse side that could contest at the tournament.”
Quizzed on how the move transpired, the 22-year-old explained, “I had been thinking of moving for a long time to play Club Champs but it was a very hard decision and took me a long time to make up my mind and let go of my childhood club.
“Eventually I decided in the new year to move and after that, the transition was smooth.”
It certainly did not take long for Coulentianos’ wish to become a reality, as he will now feature at the Club Champs in Pretoria between April 22 and 28.

He is likely to start as the number three batsman.
Asked for his thoughts of finally making it to the tournament, he commented, “Well, moving across I was quietly confident of going to Club Champs.
“Kempton’s goal is still to try and win Club Champs and I honestly believe we have the team to do so. I’m just really blessed and excited for the opportunity to challenge myself at the highest level of club cricket.
“I’m really looking forward to it.”
