Hence the owner of Pick n Pay Towers in North Rand Road, Nick Christofides, donated a soccer kit to the Boksburg North SAPS on April 11.
Many police officers not fit for the job – DA
The donation came after the police officers visited the centre to introduce themselves to the tenants as part of a crime fighting strategy in that sector.
“What they did pleased me because in all my 15 years at the centre, no officer has ever walked in here to introduce themselves,” said Christofides.
“They met the tenants so now we know them and they know us. Now we are a community and it’s up us to enhance the relations,” he said.
Christofides is of the view that the community must support the police.
“I wanted to contribute and that’s when police fitness came to mind. I thought I should offer them a soccer kit so that they can keep fit by playing soccer,” he said.
Christofides bought and donated a full soccer kit, which includes shorts, tops and boots.
He suggested that more business people should join hands to create an annual event with various activities in honour of the local police.
