Flurry of tries as Boksburg undo NWU
The Boksburg Rugby Club’s premier XV secured a thumping Valke Peregrine League away win against the North-West University (NWU), in one of the more lopsided matches this season.
The Owls, fresh from their nail-biting 18-17 win against Vaal Reefs on their Prince George home ground, hammered the hosts 100-12 on Saturday, July 18.
The visitors, who have seemingly come out of their hibernation following a difficult start to the season, which saw them endure a lengthy losing streak, were ruthless and unforgiving in attack, scoring 16 tries.
Dendre Strydom, wings Morne Badenhorst and Thabo Tau, flyhalf PJ Beukes, No 8 Henry Badenhorst, flank Kyle Lewis, lock pairing Willem Botes and Johan Venter, and replacement back Tinus Oosthuizen all dotted down.
Strydom and Henry Badenhorst scored hat-tricks, while Beukes, Lewsi, Botes and Tau scored braces.
The Owls also came away with a bonus point for scoring four tries (or more), while NWU emerged empty-handed.
The Owls will be looking to end their league season on a high when they host Klerksdorp, in their last match, on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
