Help uplifting children with dance moves

In honour of his late mother, Cheslyn Henry from Rhythm 2 Sessions Production and Dance Studio has started a new community upliftment project, called The Henrietta Dance Project.

Through the project, Cheslyn and his wife Hayley are teaching plus-minus 70 children from the Lakeside Primary School in Reiger Park, how to dance at no charge during school hours.

Due to a lack of hall facilities at the school, the classes take place outside on the tarmac.

Having grown up in Reiger Park, Cheslyn says he owes the success of his career to his late mother.

“My mom, Henrietta Sylvia Henry, passed away in January. If it wasn’t for my mother and the sacrifices she made in order for me to dance, I would definitely not be where I am today,” he says.

He says the children they teach range from the ages of seven through to 13.

“We will put on a production show at the end of the year where the children will get the opportunity to showcase their dance skills, which they have learned throughout this year,” he adds.

Cheslyn points out that the children are dancing in their school uniform, which is not ideal.

“The children, therefore, need dance shoes, dance gear, transport to-and-from our school, financial assistance with entrance fees, and costumes for the dance productions.”

Cheslyn appeals to companies and others to assist them by making donations towards the project.

“My wife and I are committed to helping these children reach their dreams through dance. We are very excited about project, and look forward to the positive changes dance training will make in their lives,” he says.

If you would like to make a donation to the project, you may contact Cheslyn on e-mail at info@r2sessions.co.za or call 082 665 5022. – @TumeloBoksburg
