Local gymnasts shine in Sun City
Seven gymnasts from Wild Flames Concordia Tumbling and Acro Club in Boksburg scooped seven medals at the 2014 Indo Pacific International Championships held at the Superbowl, Sun City, recently.
The medals are five gold and two silvers. Gymnasts from nine years of age up to seniors participated at the event.
Caitlin Weber, Kay-Lee van Eeden, Lara Scoones, Divan Willemse and David Horswill secured gold; with Tanika de Gouveia and Juanita Smith claiming silver.
The club also boasts three gymnasts namely Kiara Swart, Bianca Engelbrecht and Nikita Viljoen whom all competed at the World Age Group Competition at the 2014 World Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships last month in France.
The Indo Pacific International Championships, which are held every two years, were last hosted in Sydney, Australia in 2012.
This year’s edition showcased categories including Individual Trampoline, Syncronised Trampoline, Double Mini Trampoline, Tumbling and Acrobatic Gymnastics for the first time in Indo Pacific Championships history.
Over 200 gymnasts and officials from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Namibia and South Africa competed at the Championships. – @SabeloBoksburg
