Kaufela Boksburg downs Vereeniging

A hat-trick of tries by utility back Ashwill Adams helped steer Kaufela Boksburg to a comfortable 38-29 victory over a spirited Vereeniging side in their Valke Peregrine League match at Prince George Park on Saturday, July 5.

Half-time score was 25-17 to Boksburg.

The homeside surged-on from the advantage created in a fast-paced first half where they ran in three tries through Adams, Dirkie Burger and skipper, Dirk Bloem.

The bonus-point win saw the Owls cement their third spot standing on the log behind G5 Metals Brakpan who thumped Vaal Reefs 40-0, and front-runners Springs.

Mercurial fullback Ashley Buchler ended with 13 points from the boot as he slotted three penalties and two conversions, with Adams adding on to his first half score with a brace in the second to seal the win.

Vereeniging, who has only registered two victories in the league thus far, were forced to chase the game courtesy of Buchler’s boot; despite matching the Owls on the tries scored statistic, with both teams running in five tries apiece.

The visitors crossed the whitewash on three occasions in the first half and twice in the second.

Next for both teams are home matches with the Owls welcoming Vaal Reefs and Vereeniging hosting Vaal Pukke in a bottom of the log clash.

Both fixtures are scheduled for Saturday, July 19. – @SabeloMashego
