Fire fighters hailed heroes for saving shack from fire
Four members of the Ramaphosa Community Emergency Response Team (Cert) are being hailed as heroes and heroine for saving a family’s RDP house from a fire in Ramaphosa.
According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson, William Tladi, the volunteer fire-fighters put their lives on the line to save the family’s house, after a shack constructed next the RDP house went up in flames on Friday evening, May 16.
“After the Cert members were alerted to the fire, they rushed to scene to fight the blaze, while preventing it from spreading into the RDP house,” says Tladi.
Although the fire completely gutted the shack, the volunteers managed to prevent the inferno from spreading into the nearby house.
“While they were still working to quench the fire in the already gutted shack, bystanders told the volunteers that the owner of the shack was still trapped inside. However, before they could try to pull the trapped person free, the owner returned from somewhere to find his shack in flames.”
Fire-fighters were relieved to find out that no person was trapped inside the shack.
When Emergency Services arrived at the scene, the Cert already managed to contain the fire.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
Cert is made up of community members who are trained and equipped to fight fires in their communities, using sand and water.
The Ekurhuleni Emergency Services applauded the volunteers’ swift actions.
