Bronco FC crowned Easter Tournament champions

Bronco FC produced a clinical performance to beat Dalpark FC 2-1 in the Gold Section final of the Easter Tournament played at the WJ Clements Stadium in Reiger Park on Monday, April 21.

The Reiger Park outfit claimed the victory after being 1-0 down early in the first half, in a match that was played in front of the packed stadium.

Midfielder Xolani Mtshali put the visitors ahead midway through the first half before Antonio McDonald leveled the scores for Bronco. Carlos Smith made it two for the hosts to hand his team a 2-1 half-time lead.

The second stanza saw both teams produce end-to-end action with Dalpark pressing for the equaliser in the game’s dying minutes, but the hosts held firm to claim a memorable victory.

Bronco coach, Glurmin Mafungo, praised his team in a post-match pitch-side interview.

“Excellent!” he said, after asked of his thoughts on the match.

“The preparation started at training and today’s success can be dedicated to the hard training before the tournament started. The tournament was also good preparation for the upcoming Castle League.”

Bronco owner, Albert Lottering, also heaped praised on the team’s showing.

“The performance of the boys today and throughout the tournament was excellent,” he enthused.

“Congratulations to the coach and his team, congratulations to the team’s management and the players,” said Lottering.

The annual tournament, which was contested in two sections, the Gold Section and Platinum Section, ran from Friday to Monday, April 18 to 21.

It was also part of Reiger Park’s Juventus FC’s 21st anniversary celebrations.

Juventus FC chairman, Burton Trollip, deemed the jamboree a success.

“The tournament exceeded expectation, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the fans; and a special thank you to our sponsors who helped with the organising,” he said.

The Platinum Section final was contested between Argentinas of Westbury and KwaZulu-Natal’s Siyabonga FC, with Siyabonga coming out as 3-0 victors.
