Male left unconscious after accident

An unknown man was left unconscious after he was allegedly hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Jubilee Road at night on March 27.

Dianne Eastman and her daughter came upon him on their way home.

They saw a light in the road and thought it was an accident.

After making a U-turn, they spotted a young man lying in the middle of the road, and immediately thought a vehicle knocked him off his bicycle.

However, there was no other vehicle available on scene that could be associated with the accident.

Eastman called the Emergency Management Services (EMS) and an ambulance was called out.

“He had severe blood coming from his head. We tried to keep him calm and awake while we waited for the medics,” says Eastman.

“The only thing that kept going through my head was to speak to him and try to keep him awake as he didn’t really register and was so full of blood while his eyes rolled back in his head. I prayed that God would keep him alive.”

According to EMS media liaison officer, William Ntladi, the scene evaluation did not show whether the guy was knocked by a vehicle at all.

The man was taken to the Tambo Memorial Hospital by Netcare ambulance.

“I am so sad that people can just do things like this – bump a young guy off his bike, then drive off,” says Eastman.

Eastman’s concern is that this specific road is very dark at night and urges the metro to put more lights in this road.

By the time of publication, the identity of the male was still unknown.

The Advertiser is still waiting for a response on enquiries directed to the metro and the Tambo Memorial Hospital.
