Margaret Hirsch – inspired to do more for women
Margaret Hirsch, Business Woman of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year, spoke at the East Rand Business Women’s monthly get-together, at the Birchwood Hotel, recently.
The women were delighted to have her as their guest, as she is dynamic and inspirational.
Margaret found out at a young age that all she needed were her hands and her brain to be successful. She bought her first pair of shoes at the age of 12, with the money she made from working at a hair salon.
She really appreciated those shoes, and wore them until she was 15 years old. During her career, she has worked hard to help to empower people, especially women, to be able to make money.
“God wants us to have a lot, but we settle for less,” she said.
“We need to see that there is more out there; there is a seed of greatness in each of us, but we have to nurture it.”
Margaret shared with the women many of her stories of her fight up the ladder towards success.
Nothing comes easy, but she believes that if you can look up, you can get up and carry on going.
“We need to set goals and create vision boards to make those goals a reality,” she said.
Margaret is passionate about giving back and works with many communities in many different ways.
One of her major passions is empowering schoolgirls with dignity packs, to enable them to never miss school days due to their menstrual cycles.
“There is so much potential and wealth in South Africa, and we need to work to our full potential to let it all out,” said Margaret.
At the event, the East Rand Business Women donated stationery to the Birchwood Hotel Ukajede Project, in thanks for the sponsorship they receive from the Birchwood Hotel.
Funds were also donated to the Dignity programme, Subzpads, that Margaret is passionate about. For more information, visit www.subzpads.co.za.
