Northerns cruise past Boksburg

Benoni Northerns claimed an emphatic 168-run victory over Boksburg in their Promotion League encounter at a sunny PG Park on Saturday, March 22.

The meeting between the two sides was a rescheduled match, which was initially set to take place late last year before it got postponed.

The hosts won the pre-match toss and sent Northerns to bat first, before the visitors raced to 100 runs in less than 100 balls.

Opener, Vaughn Humphrey, finished as the match’s highest scorer with his mammoth 90 runs from 71 balls. His impressive innings included 11 boundaries and two sixes.

Marlou Moore (67) and skipper, Juan Schaerer (66 not-out) rounded off Northerns’ top three highest scorers on the day, as the visitors posted a daunting 322/8 in their 50 overs.

Bruce Forbes was the stand-out pick of the Boksburg batting order as he scored 27, which was his side’s highest score.

Northerns’ Jaco Kruger helped his side deny Boksburg of any momentum during their innings as he finished as the match’s best bowler, claiming figures of 4/44 in 10 overs to limit the hosts to a lowly 154 all-out in 42.1 overs.

Final Eastern Cricket log standings are yet to be released.

Northerns' skipper, Juan Schaerer faced 76 balls to register his 66 not-out as his troop cruised to a comfortable victory.
