Emphatic win for Boksburg in Community Cup debut
Kaufela Boksburg began their Community Cup campaign in style as they notched up a convincing 42-13 bonus-point win over BB Truck Noordelikes in Polokwane on Saturday, March 8.
Boksburg led 23-8 at halftime.
The Owls outscored the hosts five tries to two on their way to collecting maximum points in the rain-soaked Pool C encounter.
Wayne Havenga, Ashwill Adams, Juan Bester, Stanley Peacock and Ferdie Erasmus crossed the white wash for the visitors with Johan de Beer and Ricardo Varela getting on the scoreboard for Noordelikes.
“Getting a win in Polokwane was our primary goal and the bonus point was the ‘cherry on top’,” said Boksburg’s assistant coach, Fillip Lemmer.
“I think a lot of credit should be given to our tight five who played an amazing role to give us front-foot ball in the tough conditions. They really worked hard and our rolling mauls were fantastic, and that’s where we killed them.”
Elsewhere, Roses United overturned a four-point half-time deficit to shock last season’s bronze medallists, G5 Metals Brakpan 27-26 in the weekend’s other Pool C match.
Brakpan host Boksburg in the much-anticipated East Rand derby, which will be televised on SuperSport HD1 (channel 201 and/or 211 on DStv) on Thursday, March 20.
