Generator lands suspects in hot water

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Norman Makafane (42), from Tembisa, and Moses Buthelezi (30), from Springs, appeared in court on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

They pleaded guilty, were found guilty, and sentenced on February 13, to R6 000 or 12 months imprisonment, suspended for five years.

The men were found in possession of a generator to the value of R2 499. When questioned as to where they got the generator, the men could not give an explanation.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the matter, and Busi Mafokeng appeared on behalf of the State.

* Lloyo Nyoni (26), from Braamfontein, appeared in court on a charge of contravening the Films and Publications Board Act.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on February 13, to R3 000 or six months imprisonment, suspended for five years.

The accused was found selling pirated DVD’s on North Rand Road.

Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided over the matter, and Busi Mafokeng appeared on behalf of the State.

*Alfred Hangane (32) appeared in court on a charge of possession of drugs.

He pleaded guilty, was found guilty, and sentenced on February 14, to R200 or 20 days imprisonment.

On January 24 the accused was found in possession of one “joint”.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter, and Palesa Setshedi appeared on behalf of the State.

* Ryan Botha (29), from Boksburg, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on February 3, and sentenced on February 14 to six months imprisonment.

The accused was caught after he stole R400 worth of petrol from a garage in Impala Park.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided over the matter, and Ntombi Mbonani appeared on behalf of the State.

* Arsenio Masango (28), from Rondebult, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on January 10, and sentenced on February 18, to R4 000 or 12 months imprisonment, of which R2 000 or six months imprisonment is suspended for five years.

On January 4, the accused stole four pairs of jeans, from Edgars, to the value of R2 596.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter, and Khato Ranwedzi appeared on behalf of the State.
