“The metro has taken a decision to demolish the building, after conducting an intensive investigation to determine whether to demolish or re-build and upgrade it for future use,” says Themba Gadebe, metro spokeperson.
“A quotation was advertised and the final report to appoint a contractor will be finalised in three days after evaluation of the quotations.
“It is envisaged that this process, after approval, will be finalised before the end of February.”
During May in 2013, the metro also promised residents that it would appoint a specialist demolition company to demolish the same building, up to slab level, and said the appointed company was expected to execute the demolition before November.
This has not happened.
