Two critically injured during hijacking

Two suspects were arrested in Comet after they hijacked and shot a man and his son on Thursday morning, February 13.

Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, said that the suspects, driving a silver Volkswagen Polo, hijacked the man’s Nissan Qashqai while he was coming out his driveway.

“The suspects fired shots at the man, who was hit in the chest,” says Coetzer.

“The man’s son, a high school learner, got out and confronted the suspects, who fired four shots at him, hitting him in the leg.”

She says that metro police officers, Netcare 911 and Boksburg North SAPS members arrived at the scene and arrested the suspects.

“Both the man and his son were stabilised at the scene,” says Lieut Coetzer.

The man was airlifted and the son was transported in an ambulance to hospital.

One of the suspects sustained injuries during the crime and was taken to hospital by emergency services.

The firearm used during the hijacking was recovered and confiscated.

Santi Steinmann, spokesperson for Nectare 911, said that when paramedics arrived at the scene they found that the two men were in a critical condition following the incident.
